7-YEAR-LONG CHESS MATCH UPDATE!
Steve Retreats Queen to e7; Is Up Two Pawns On Adam!
(This article was updated in February 2004. Check it out!)
Howdy people! Okay, I'll admit that the graphics of the chess
diagram is in really bad shape, but hey, at least I made a chess move
after eight gut-wrenching months of studying and contemplating the position in
my nearly 7-year-long
chess match with Adam. Now remember,
Adam is white and I have the black pieces.
If you play through the match using the notation below, you'll notice
that we just exchanged capturing pawns and I just retreated my queen to e7.
This is turning out to be one interesting
match. While I definitely expect to win this match - (Ahem! I'm ahead two pawns!) -
there is still a lot of chess left to be played and Adam has been known to think
of some sneaky strategies.
So what do you think about our long-term chess match?
This April will be the seven year anniversary of when we first starting playing in April 1997.
In an almost surreal and tortoise-like fashion, sometimes Adam and I have taken over six to nine months to decide our chess move.
At this pace, I anticipate the match finishing (with me winning, of course) sometime in 2012. Good riddance!
Adam, it's my turn buddy! I highly suggest
that you carefully study the position! You're already
down two pawns and any more blunders on your part will likely lead to disaster! ;)
What a lovely picture of Adam! Who is this guy, you ask?
Adam and I worked
together at a Christian-based, residential farm that worked with troubled
young adults in New Hampshire about seven years ago.
Adam has been a U.S. Marine for the past five years and has spent large
amounts of time overseas at undisclosed regions of the world. Right now
he's based at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina
and gets to spend lots of time on the message forums. You'll find many of his postings in the Religion & Spirituality Forum under the name of The Brou.
By the way, the ladies really seem to take a liking to Adam.
They all think he's super cute! Sheeeeesh! Well, you should know that Adam is officially
"taken" and is
engaged to be married this year to a lovely lass in Rhode Island named Meg.
Here are some "Adam links" if you're interested: U.S. Marine Adam, Stupid Adam Pics, Adam's Basic Theology.
I regularly update this page when either
of us make a move, so stay tuned!
