Colorado Guy Hikes the Lower Barr Trail
Hike on the Lower Barr Trail, January 6, 2002
Hi everyone. Lisa and I went hiking on the lower part of the Barr Trail today. This is a 12.6-mile path that eventually leads to the top of Pikes Peak. Barr Trail Sign
I admit, I lost my cool when I saw all the "No Crossing Switchbacks" sign. Switchbacks make hikes longer and I tend to get very impatient. I guess you could call it an anger problem. :-( No Switchbacks! Ugh!
That's Lisa, happily posing as if she was hiking, with Red Mountain hovering on the right. Red Mountain, Manitou Springs
Lisa and I rested for a short while and these were joggers nearby. I have no idea who they are. Barr Trail Joggers
I think they definitely try to scare you when you hike the Barr Trail, and for good reason! Another Barr Trail Sign
That's Manitou Springs, about halfway up Mount Manitou. Mount Manitou View
We went off on a path that went downhill in a really tight valley... Ruxton Creek Diversion
...at the bottom was Ruxton Creek that had some amazing ice formations within the rocks. Lisa was so amused she ever brought out her camera. Ruxton Creek
Here's when I got into trouble. I went across the creek to pose for a picture and stepped on a snow-covered block of ice than GAVE WAY. See the break in the ice? My foot went ankle deep into FREEZING COLD WATER! :( Snow-covered Ruxton Creek!
I was SO COLD! :-( Very cold picture
