Hike on the Lower Barr Trail, January 6, 2002
| Hi everyone. Lisa and I went hiking on the lower part of the Barr Trail today. This is a 12.6-mile path that eventually leads to the top of Pikes Peak. |
| I admit, I lost my cool when I saw all the "No Crossing Switchbacks" sign. Switchbacks make hikes longer and I tend to get very impatient. I guess you could call it an anger problem. :-( |
| That's Lisa, happily posing as if she was hiking, with Red Mountain hovering on the right. |
| Lisa and I rested for a short while and these were joggers nearby. I have no idea who they are. |
| I think they definitely try to scare you when you hike
the Barr Trail, and for good reason! |
| That's Manitou Springs, about halfway up Mount Manitou. |
| We went off on a path that went downhill in a really tight valley... |
| ...at the bottom was Ruxton Creek that had some amazing ice formations within the rocks. Lisa was so amused she ever brought out her camera. |
| Here's when I got into trouble. I went across the creek to pose for a picture and stepped on a snow-covered block of ice than GAVE WAY. See the break in the ice? My foot went ankle deep into FREEZING COLD WATER! :( |
| I was SO COLD! :-( |
