DOWNTOWN BUENA VISTA, COLORADO! Wandering & Bored On A Dreary Sunday Afternoon
March 12, 2006
Snow It was an unusually dark and dreary Sunday afternoon. It was our third or fourth day of snowfall and the winds were howling like crazy. The adjacent photo was the view outside my living room, and I just knew I had to get out from being couped up in my cabin. Goodness! So I decided to walk around downtown Buena Vista, which pretty much consists of East Main Street for four blocks, just east of Highway 24.
Cigars Honestly, I was having a really hard time with being bored. So I bought a cheap package of cigars as a coping mechanism. Just as an FYI, a "coping mechanism" is something we do when we refuse to deal with reality, like the way I felt with my overwhelming sense of boredom. :p)
Buena Vista, Colorado Downtown Buena Vista was pretty much dead as expected. Most of the shops were closed on this Sunday afternoon, and tourist season has not begun yet.
Buena Vista, Colorado I got a nice shot facing east. Here are some of my other Buena Vista, Colorado area pictures:
  • Cottonwood Pass, Bike: Salida To Buena Vista
  • Mt. Princeton Pictures, Hike Mt. Princeton, Mt. Yale, Nathrop
  • Town of Granite, Salida, Trout Creek Pass
  • Shirt at Bongo Billy's, Buena Vista Traffic Light
  • Buena Vista Christmas Parade, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs
  • St. Elmo, Collegiate Peaks, Denny Creek Trail
  • Cigar Smoker The large kayak store was open, but by then I had lit up my cigar. I wanted to go in! :( Sniff, sniff.
Snow Kayak Ooooooh! But I love their decorated kayak next to their entrance.
Railroad Tracks I'm serious people ... I was bored! There are old railroad tracks that run through Buena Vista. A train route used to ride on those tracks regularly up until two years ago. You know, one of these days, if I am especially bored as today, I just might walk the 25 miles down those tracks to Salida. Now that might be an interesting adventure! ;)
Buena Vista, Colorado The Buena Vista Town Hall building.
Near the Buena Vista traffic light is an old classic Chevy van from the 1960's. It holds a sign for Punky's Restaurant, which is a really fun place that Sherri and I hung out at one night. :)
Buena Vista, Colorado I wanted to visit this old building on South Railroad Street that was selling to second hand clothes, but they were closed. :(

Pancho's Restaurant In Buena Vista, Colorado ... (A Few More Pictures)
I then walked over to Pancho's, a non-franchise fast food place right on Highway 24.
I showed up at 3 p.m. and um, it was pretty dead.
This Buena Vista teenager took my order and I actually spent some time telling him how bored I was. He, being a local, agreed and now I know why teenagers in this town seem to get into so much trouble ... They're probably more bored than I was most of the time! :( Anyway, I really like this young man's Pancho's aprin. If they sold t-shirts with that funky cactus logo, I would definitely buy one! :)
I ordered a beef burrito and a bean tostada. Folks, it was good! :)
They have some nice decorations in the dining area.
Thanks so much for viewing this photos and reading my captions. If you want to see more fo Buena Vista, I created an entire web site decided to it at: ScenicBuenaVista.com.
