DORY LUZ AND STEVE - (Mexican Lunch, Java The Hut Cafe & Pikes Peak Highway)
November 7, 2003

Mexican Food Dory Luz, my dear from Guatemala, was in town. With some free time, we went on an afternoon adventure. First, we dined at Fiesta Mexicana in Woodland Park. Mmmmmmmmm ... Great food!
Dory Luz Steve How could I not eat out without taking some nifty eating pictures? :)

Java The Hut in Woodland Park
After lunch, we went to Java the Hut, a locally-owned cafe.
Dory checks out a Colorado calendar.
While I worked on my Spanish with her aid, I reciprocated by teaching Dory how to play checkers. :)

RIGHT: There I am, double-jumping her. I get kind of competitive with games like this! ;)

Then we drove to the summit of Pikes Peak...

Lunch and checkers were nice, but we were in the mood for an adventure. It was a chilly day, but the Pikes Peak Highway was open all the way to the top. My Pikes Peak pictures:

  • With Brother Mark, 2000 Trip
  • Pikes Peak Highway, Marmots
  • Hike To Pikes Peak
  • Extreme Ironing at Pikes Peak
  • Pikes Peak Photos
  • Pikes Peak Highway (2007)
  • Pikes Peak, CO At the Crystal Reservoir (near the beginning of the highway), with that huge mountain in the background!
Pikes Peak Highway Dory Luz I always feel like I need to stop briefly at those crazy-shaped rocks north of Elk Park.
Above Timberline It is so cool once you get above timberline! ;)
Pikes Peak Highway With the snow and very slight precipitation, it made going up parts like this a little unnerving.
Pikes Peak Highway, CO 13,000 feet in elevation ... Traveling up! :)
Pikes Peak, CO Dory likes to hike up volcanoes in Guatemala, and uh, she said the task will seem easier to her in the future after traveling up this mountian! ;)
Pikes Peak That's me freezing my butt off!
People, it was so cold, but we were happy to be up there!
6 Degrees In fact, the thermometer at the Summit House read six degrees, and that's not taking into account the nasty, strong wind gusts!
Up at 14,000 feet in elevation, there really isn't anything that grows ... just rocks! :)
Pikes Peak Gift Shop That was the very friendly Pikes Peak gift shop staff! ;)
I get cold just looking at these pictures! :-(
Dory Luz Dory Luz Hey Dory, it don't get this cold in Guatemala, does it?

    Heh heh!
1991 Honda CRX Oh! Special thanks must be given to my Honda CRX, which bravely made it to the top for the first time ever! :)
