Hike to HORSETHIEF FALLS in Southern Teller County - August 8, 2004
Horsethief Falls! A couple of photos before acutally reaching the falls. (For directions and trail information, scroll down to my snowy winter pictorial!)
Hooray! Yippee! Hee haw!
TOP LEFT: The falls consists of a stream "bumbling" down a somewhat steep slope for about 75 to 100 yards. It is really nice! You'll get the sense that you can interact with the falls, sit somewhere nearby and take it all in.
TOP RIGHT: Ooooooh! Real nice! :)
MIDDLE: Near the very bottom of the falls, as it flows back towards the trailhead.
BOTTOM: Standing near the top and looking down.

Folks, this is definitely a nice hike! I sat by the stream for awhile and just relaxed.

Winter Photos of the HORSETHIEF FALLS HIKE! - February 28, 2004

Directions to Horsethief Falls: It's approximately six miles south of Divide on State Highway 67. The parking lot & trailhead is in front of an old tunnel. (See adjacent photo)

The first half mile is somewhat steep, followed by another mile of moderate hiking in forest. I must say, this is a very pretty area to hike, but these photos just don't capture the beauty here!

About one mile into the hike, there's a "Y" in the trail. Going left will take you to an open field; Going right takes you to the falls.

A couple of photos after going left at the fork...

TOP: Part of the western slope of Pikes Peak.
BOTTOM: Look how hard it began to snow!
Towards the falls! With visibility poor and snow covering the ground and creek, I didn't get a good picture of the falls. My other waterfall pictorials:
  • Rainbow Falls (in Manitou Springs)
  • Cascade Falls (in Ouray)
  • Helen Hunt Falls (Colorado Springs)
  • Queens Canyon Waterfall (Colorado Springs)
  • Rainbow Falls (Manitou Springs, CO)
  • Boulder Falls (Near Boulder, CO)
  • Other shot of just how hard it was snowing! :O
TA-DA! There's Horsethief Falls, snow-covered and frozen! I'll definitely be back after the snow melts! ;)
One bad self-portrait of myself! I foolishly didn't bring a hat with me and notice all the icy snow in my hair! ;)

All of my Teller County pictorials:
  • Road Less Traveled, Tres Hombres
  • Cripple Creek 2001 2002 & 2003, Victor
  • Bike Ride Throughout County
  • Snow photos, Hayman Fire, Mueller State Park
