Happy "Make Fun of Crested Butte" Day! Hooray! It's another holiday to celebrate on this web site! :)

As if yesterday's Anti-Metric System holiday wasn't enough, here's a special day to make fun of how people frequently misprounce the town of Crested Butte, Colorado! :)

Whether it's Crested Butte, Butte, Montana or Butte County, California ... Ha ha ha ha ha! I always crack up uncontrolably when I hear someone call it "butt".

I do need to confess that I have never been to Crested Butte, but I have driven through Gunnison a whole bunch of times. Does that count? ;) Also, this web site has a Crested Butte Discussion Forum, so it's not like I'm ignoring them! :p

Now about the pictures of above: Since I have never been to Crested Butte, the adjacent photo was actually taken during my Devil's Head Frie Lookout Tower hike in the Rampart Range mountians. The bottom photo, um, is the only picture of my butt that can be on seen on this web site. It was taken while hiking the Waldo Canyon Loop Trail near Manitou Springs.)

To commemorate "Make Fun of Crested Butte" day, I wrote a poem below.

Crested Crusted Butte ... Butt?!

I've been told my butt is crested
It's always looked quite funny
I've gazed at it in the mirror
Goes to show I might be a dummy.

Ski slopes, condos, ritzy places
An oasis in Colorado's mounty.
I hear it's kind of pricey
In that hamlet in Gunnison County.

Our language is quite interesting
And to think that such a change
Of removing an "e" in the word "butte"
Could talk about one's butt!

(NOTE: I meant that last paragraph not to rhyme!)

People freqently refer to one's bottom
When alluding to this town
When people mispronounce and say "butt"
Locals are quick to give a frown.

Now my butt was probably crusted
After biking Monarch Pass
Relax, I didn't take pictures
Of my blankety blank ass!
