What is the climate like in Colorado?

One of the biggest draws to Colorado is the climate. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, the weather is quite mild through out the seasons. Although the conditions can be dry it makes for very temperate summers and surprisingly warm winters.

I want to live in an area that has some outdoor beauty, not in a large sprawling suburb. What are good towns where one could commute to a larger city?

Depending on your definitions of "large city" or "commute" there are several areas throughout Colorado that would suit your desires. Aspen and Vail are fantastic destinations for those who love to ski and snowboard but be prepared to spend some money as they are also popular destinations for some of the rich and famous.

If you like adventure and don't mind living at 9,000 feet try Telluride and Durango where you will find world-class mountain biking trails through fabulous scenery. Some of my other recommendations are Ouray, Montrose, Buena Vista and Crested Butte.

My favorite, of course (my home) is Woodland Park. Located at the foot of Pikes Peak and just outside Colorado Springs, Woodland Park and Teller County are home to some of the finest fishing holes and hiking trails in Colorado.
