PANCAKE ROCKS TRAIL! (Near Horsethief Falls in Teller County, CO)
August 21, 2004
Note: Photo above taken on the winter hike to Horsethief Falls. |
How to get there: The trailhead for Horsethief Falls and the Pancake Rocks are right on Highway 67 at the old tunnel, approximately six miles south of Divide, CO.
Hike the trail as if you are headed to
Horsethief Falls and before reaching the waterfall,
follow this sign to the right. |
 |
The first 1.5 miles are somewhat steep, but you will
get your money's worth in Colorado views right away! I believe that peak is known as
Sentinel Point, a lofty point among Pikes Peak's western hills. |
 |
Check out this mushroom! |
 |
A few yellow aspen leaves on the ground already!
My area autumn pages: Wilkerson Pass, Colorado Foliage,
Phantom Canyon Road,
Teller County,
Cottonwood Pass and Chaffee County.

|
I tried to get a token and junky photo of myself, but instead got a photo of my
my large stomach. Sorry about that folks! :(
The Krispy Kreme t-shirt is a good one though! :) |
 |
I reached a clearing with nice views to the southwest,
with a few pancake-ish rocks to whet your appetite ... but keep going! |
 |
More aspens hint of yellow! :) |
 |
The Pancake Rocks!
To get there, just before the trail makes a significant downhill,
look to the right and walk about 500 yards in that direction. You will see these pancake rocks and a grand lookout. |
 |
This aspen grove looked so enticing as a photographer!
I can't wait to do some autumn colors pictorials with my new camera! |
 |
Looking west. |
 |
Looking southwest, towards the direction of Cripple Creek and Victor. |

Two last Pancake Rock pictures! |
