RICO, COLORADO! (alt. 8,827 feet, Between Cortez & Telluride) - August 2003
Rico, Colorado!
Located between Telluride and Cortez in the Dolores River Valley! |
This is a really small and former mining town with old
Victorian buildings ... kind of like Cripple Creek
but much more "homey" and personable. |
Now this is a small mountain town with character! |
I had a nice discussion with the woman inside the liquor store and got a picture of her posing outside the store. :) |
A Rico Freako?!
I dined at the Theater Cafe and met another friendly local. His name is Willie and I was very
intrigued by his "Rico Freako" cap. Talk about having pride in your town ... Great nickname! :) |
There's a nice cafe and theater on the main road. |
And YUM! I ordered the burrito dinner and it was huge! |
The Rico Post Office! :) |
A nice shot of the Dolores River just outside of town. |

There is not much on the main drag, but there was a neat shop
that had homemade beeswax candles. I had yet another
good conversation with a Rico local (right)
who makes the candles and ships them out all over the world. I know he is not smiling, but trust me, he really did agree to have his picture taken! ;)
Lastly, check out the label which reads, "Ridiculously long burn times."
You can buy candles online at www.BeesWaxCandles.com. |

One token photo of myself! :)
It had an enjoyable afternoon visit to Rico, yet another memorable experience after just finishing bicycling across Colorado. |
