Pikes Peak
Royal Gorge Bridge and Park

(Photos of Steve and Ron's Summer Visit To The Royal Gorge - June 19, 2005)

Royal Gorge, CO I had a two free admissions to the Royal Gorge Bridge & Theme Park and took Ron along with me.
Royal Gorge A sign with the history of the Royal Gorge.
Royal Gorge Bridge Arkansas Flag It is definitely an experience to walk on that bridge!

With all state flags waving on the bridge, I snapped a photo of the Arkansas flag. This was the site of the 2005 Colorado Guy Festival! Go Razorbacks! :)

Royal Gorge, CO Royal Gorge Rafting
Looking straight down from the bridge, it is a long way down! In the bottom right photo, notice the Royal Gorge Train and the rafting boats on the Arkansas River.

If you really like bridges, check out this page: New York City Bridges.

Royal Gorge Bridge Cables
Ron and I noticed just how thick the cables are on this thing.
Royal Gorge Tram
Royal Gorge, CO
We then rode in the "tram" and I got a really nice shot of the bridge and canyon in the middle. Pretty nice!

We then took the "incline" to the base of the canyon. The top right photo is somewhat blurry, but you'll get a good idea of the vertical difference! This ride is similar to what the old Manitou Incline used to offer until the early 1990s. My other pages in the Royal Gorge region:

Ron Good heavens! I got a picture of Ron spitting into the Arkansas River! You can also see Ron at the Dinosaur Resource Center (Wooland Park) and the Butterfly Pavilion! ;)

We walked up to the old nature center (which is now a private retreat) and got two more photos of the bridge. In the bottom photo, I think you will get a solid grasp of the depth of this thing!
Cholla Cactus Cactus Kiss Um, I marveled in all the cacti throughout the tundra, and I mustered the courage to kiss one!
100 Degrees On the way back, look how nice and hot it was in Canon City! :p)

    Royal Gorge - August 2000
Royal Gorge NOTE: Here are some photos from my visit in 2000 with the original captions included. I had a crummy digital camera back then!

There is a really long bridge that takes you across the canyon. The drop to the bottom is over 1,000 feet!

Mom is really scared of heights, but she mustered the courage to get on the bridge.
Royal Gorge I took that picture from a little cable tram. Not sure if you can really grasp the depth of this huge canyon.
Royal Gorge The view from the bottom, at the base of the canyon.
Mark Ew! Mark spit from the bridge and we watched his glob of saliva falling downward for about 30 seconds before we could not see it anymore. It still had not reached the bottom at that point! Do you see his spit in the bottom left corner? :D
    Kiss A Cactus A cactus kiss! :)
