Manitou Springs UPS Guy and "Chipotle Woman" Honored
February 9, 2002
MANITOU SPRINGS, CO -- The local UPS Delivery Guy and a Colorado Springs Chipotle
cashier are being honored this weekend for their kindness towards
Steve Garufi and the entire ColoradoGuy community.
However, in the both
incidents, Steve was too shy to ask their name nor did he ask them to
pose for a picture - instead resorting to photographing them when they were not aware.
"I saw (the UPS guy) on Manitou Avenue and he looked friendly, so I
told him about the web site and how I appreciated him delivering that
package." Steve explained, "but I guess I was too shy to ask his name
or ask him to pose for a picture."
Last month, the UPS guy promptly delivered Steve's digital camera
to his Manitou Springs apartment, which was
shipped off for repair during a
long two-week period. During that painful time without his camera,
Steve resorted to using his father's cheesy print camera as he visited
friends and family in New York and New Jersey.
Garufi gave a business card to the UPS employee, who was wearing his
customary San Diego Padres brown and yellow uniform. The man, looking at the business card,
merely replied, "You're an Internet personality? I'll have to check it out. Thanks."
The Chipotle Woman
The "Chipotle woman" has also received public admiration for generously
giving Steve a free steak burrito during
his Friday visit to Chipotle, a
fast food Mexican restaurant in Colorado Springs.
"You're the web site guy, aren't you?" the Chipotle woman asked when Steve began
to write out a check at the cash register. The employee explained
Steve won a free lunch from a business card he entered in the contest jar
recently, but had not yet contacted Steve about his win.
"I was startled that she knew me and it put a big smile on my face,"
explained Steve, "and then I remembered all the business cards I've left
in the contest jar."
The Chipotle woman, who adorned her blonde hair in two "pig tails," had
no knowledge Steve decided to honor her as he ate his burrito in the
establishment. And, just like the UPS guy, he did not muster the courage
to ask her name or request a formal picture of her.
"What's a little scary about the UPS guy is he obviously knows
where I live, so I hope he's not mad at me that he's on the web site." reflected Steve.
