TENNESSEE PASS! A Continental Divide Pass From Leadville to Minturn (January 28, 2006)
My buddy Scott and I took a drive from Leadville towards Tennessee Pass, which is part of the Contintental Divide. This sign is right at the entrance of Ski Cooper, a small Leadville-run ski area. |
At the summit (across the street from Ski Cooper), is
a parking lot for the Colorado Trail. Scott needed to use this snow-covered bathroom. ;) |
Downhill on the Eagle County (north) side, there is a
vast and beautiful area known as Eagle Park, that offers beautiful views of the surrounding
Rocky Mountains. In the winter, it is a very popular area
for snow shoeing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Notice the snowmobile tracks behind Scott! |
I've got a very good feeling this will be a great place to
visit when I'm doing my fall foliage photography! Look at all of those aspens! :) |
Nearby was a overlook and rest area that was pretty much snowed in. I grabbed a big boulder of snow and threw it up in the air! :p) |
On the Eagle County side, a bridge crosses over Piney Gulch and offers some stunning Colorado views throughout! I plan to return to this very spot to do more photography when it's warmer! :) |
I actually took this picture while driving downhill! :)
Here are my other Colorado pass pictorials: Cottonwood Pass, Independence Pass, Dallas Divide Monarch Pass, Hoosier Pass, Wolf Creek Pass Wilkerson Pass, Trout Creek Pass, Eisenhower Tunnel (I-70) Lizard Head Pass, Poncha Pass |
Around one of the bends on the Eagle County
side, I got a shot of these snowy cabins. Brrrrrrr! |
Special thanks to my Honda Accord for making it throughout
the snow-packed areas of Colorado.
I actually got stuck momentarily in the Mayflower Gulch trailhead on the way
back (near Fremont Pass), but we got her out okay. ;) |
