Sangre de Cristo Mountains! Near Westcliffe & Coaldale, CO!
July 2004
I had actually intended to drive my Honda CRX up and over the Sangres via Hayden Pass, but it just didn't look passable with my car.
The stunning view of the northern Sangre de Cristo Range south of Coaldale, as you're heading towards the Hayden Pass Drive.
South of Cotopaxi and before you hit Highway 69, you'll get a nice view of that far northern Sangre range.
Wow! Heading south towards Westcliffe!

Westcliffe is a small ranching town. With it's amazing mountain views, it has created quite a tourist niche.
Oooooooooooooh!
Randy Rusk (never met the guy) wins the contest for most attractive political campaign sign!
Blah blah blah bl-blah blah!

(Original captions maintained, FYI)

Those Sangre de Cristo Mountains are huge! They run like a long and tall spine from north to south!
Looking west towards Westcliffe with the mountains to my back.

By the way, I drove way up that road in the pictures above! ;)
Other large mountain pictures:
  • San Juan Mountains
  • Pikes Peak
  • Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Mountains near Vail, CO
  • Kite Lake (Near Alma, CO)
  • There are beautiful aspens all throughout the Custer County region. I've got to come back in the autumn! ;)
By the way, Villa Grove, Del Norte, the Sand Dunes, Bonanza, San Luis and the San Luis Valley are on the other side of this mountain range.
I'm telling you, I love Manitou Springs with all my heart, but man oh man, the scenery out there is so stinkin' captivating!
